Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times And the strength of salvation; The fear of the LORD is His treasure.

Isaiah 11:3a
He will delight in the fear of the LORD.

Philippians 2:12
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

What is the fear of the Lord? It is not to be scared of God.

Exodus 20:20 NKJV
And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”

To fear God is to be in AWE of Him.

To honor, tremble, revere, respect, and value Him more than anything or anyone else.

Proverbs 8:13
To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior, and perverse speech.

The Fear or the Awe of God is –

  1. To tremble at His presence.
  2. To tremble at His Word.

Jeremiah 5:22a NKJV
“Do you not fear Me?” says the LORD. “Will you not tremble at My presence, Who have placed the sand as the bound of the sea, By a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it?”

Psalms 89:7 NKJV
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints And to be held in reverence by all those around Him.

Psalms 19:9 NKJV
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

The fear of the Lord is what gives us the enduring power.

Isaiah 66:2b NKJV
On this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

To tremble at His Word is to obey God,

… immediately.

… even if it doesn’t make sense.

… even if it hurts.

… even if we don’t see a benefit.

… all the way to completion.

Genesis 22:2-3a
Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Early the next morning, Abraham got up and loaded his donkey.

Genesis 22:12
“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Psalms 25:14
The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.

Psalms 111:10a
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding.

Proverbs 19:23
The fear of the LORD leads to life; then, one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
