1. We choose our attitudes.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
2. Attitudes are not caused by people or circumstances.
- Happiness is a chosen attitude, not a state of being.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.
- God rewards good attitudes and disciplines bad attitudes.
James 4:6-10 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn, and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
- Good attitudes predict success and promotion. Bad attitudes predict failure and demotion.
Hummingbird Attitudes:
-My sins are forgiven, and my eternity is secure.
Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
-My future victory is greater than my present pain.
Romans 8:18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
-If God is for me, who can be against me?
Romans 8:31-33 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
-God is working all things together for my good.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
-Nothing can separate me from the love of God.
Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
